Hurricane Ian Relief Update

As many of you know, Hurricane Ian has left a path of devastation in the Caribbean, the Eastern Coast of the United States, and most notably, the state of Florida. Many dentists’ homes have been flooded, dental practices destroyed, and their patient base greatly impacted. As a profession that prides itself on family and relationships, our hearts and prayers go out to all of those impacted by the storm. 
 
The Florida Dental Association Foundation provides emergency assistance grants to Florida dentists–small grants that provide funding for immediate, essential needs such as temporary housing, food, and water. That response includes more than $200,000 in funds to those in need due to Hurricane Ian. Given the enormity of the destruction, the Texas Dental Association Board of Directors held a special meeting, and the association will be donating $16,500 to the Florida Dental Association Foundation for disaster relief. During Hurricane Harvey, others were there for us, so it is our time to pay it forward.

Not to be forgotten is the devastation incurred to the island Puerto Rico. The Texas Dental Association Board of Directors has elected to donate $7,500 to Puerto Rico’s dental association, Colegio de Cirujanos Dentistas de Puerto Rico, for disaster assistance due to Hurricane Fiona.
